Youth dies after being electrocuted while fishing in Rajapur

A youth named Md. Mahfuz Hossain Mollah (26) died after being electrocuted while fishing in Rajapur.

The incident took place on Wednesday (November 20) morning in Narikelbaria village of the upazila. He was electrocuted while irrigating a pond with an electric motor to catch fish. The matter was confirmed by Rajapur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Ismail Hossain. Mahfuz is the son of Liakat Ali Mollah of Shuktaghar village. He was a hotelier in Mollarhat Bazar.

Rajapur Police Station SI Al-Helal Sikder visited the scene. Quoting locals, he said that Mahfuz was irrigating a pond in Narikelbaria village with an electric motor in the morning. At one stage, he was electrocuted while turning on the electric line while wet. Later, locals rescued him and took him to Rajapur Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor on duty declared Mahfuz dead.

Rajapur Police Station OC Md. Ismail Hossain said that the body was handed over to them without an autopsy as the family had no complaint. A case of accidental death has been registered in the incident.
