‘World Bank delegation meeting held with Power and Energy Adviser’

A delegation meeting was held today in the conference room of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources under the leadership of Gayle Martin, Acting Country Director of the World Bank in Bangladesh along with Advisor Muhammad Fawzul Kabir Khan.

Muhammad Fawzul Kabir Khan, Adviser on Power, Energy and Mineral Resources welcomed them in the meeting and said that the current government was established on the basis of the blood and sacrifice of the students, so the foundation of this government is very strong. He said that the government is trying its best to provide comfort to the people but it is a tough job.

The advisor said that during the previous government, there were hundreds of unnecessary projects. There have been many expensive projects but their returns have been negligible. Which is not value for money. Pointing out that the same situation has happened in the power and energy sector, he said, due to these reasons, the cost and prices have increased in the power and energy sector.

Fawzul Kabir Khan expressed optimism that by increasing the amount of renewable electricity and energy on a priority basis and ensuring efficiency in this field, the price of electricity and energy will come down in the future. During this, he discussed in detail about receiving World Bank’s budget support in the energy and power sector.

Gayle Martin, Acting Country Director of the World Bank in Bangladesh, thanked the Power and Energy Advisor and said that they are keen to work with the current government sincerely. In the meantime, discussions have been held with the Governor and Finance Advisor of Bangladesh Bank regarding the budget support. He expressed optimism about receiving budget support in the energy and power sector by next December.

Senior Secretary of Electricity Department Md. Habibur Rahman, Secretary of Energy and Mineral Resources Department Md. Nurul Alam, Finance Secretary Dr. Md. Khairuzzaman Majumdar along with senior officials of the ministry were present.
