Chittagong Correspondent: Aggrieved workers of JMS Garments in Chittagong CEPZ demanding Eid bonus and arrears of salary, blocked CEPZ road from 10 am on March 22 and staged a protest march. At that time, the busiest EPZ to VIP road turned into a terrible traffic jam. Thousands of vehicles were stuck in the traffic jam on both sides of the road. Ordinary passengers had to suffer greatly. JMS worker Selim said that 2500 workers have joined the movement because of non-payment of salary and Eid bonus for the month of February. Female worker Rokeya Begum said that due to non-payment of salary allowance, we are living a life of humanity. Eid is ahead. We have not been paid the Eid bonus and salary for the month of February so far. I do not know whether I will be able to celebrate Eid with my family. Meanwhile, the workers’ road blockade that started at 10 am continued till 1 pm. Later, EPZ police station and industrial police reached the spot and brought the situation under control after talking to the garment owners. EPZ Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Akhtaruzzaman said that after talking to the protesting workers and garment owners and assuring them of their salaries, the workers left the road. The situation is currently normal. Traffic has returned to normal.
