As most of the owners of the contracting institutions belong to the government party, these unaccountable corporations are stealing people’s money by working under political influence.

Sonaimuri Upazila Engineer Imdadul Haque expressed his regret and said that due to various ongoing development works, irregularities and delays, despite repeated warnings to the contractors, the contractors are not obeying any official orders due to unknown reasons and by the force of some scum behind.

According to the sources of Sonaimuri Upazila Engineer’s Office, in the last financial year, the Executive Engineer’s Office invited tenders for paving about 17 rural roads from the Greater Noakhali Project (JNP). Among them, 4 in Nateshwar Union, 1 in Ambar Nagar Union, 2 in Bargaon Union. T, 2 in Chashir Hat, 2 in Bajra Union, 3 in Sonapur Union, 2 in Jayag and 1 in Amipara Union, tenders were called for road development work. Relevant sources said that the tender process was not transparent. Due to the delay of 5 months in the tender, the work order was issued in favor of the contractor. It is constructed using sand and a small amount of cement on mud soil without any kind of basement.

Regarding these irregularities, several local contractors said that the officials of the executive engineer’s office do not sign files without 15% commission, due to which the contractors cannot complete the work properly.
