The shortage of doctors in rural or rural areas is a matter of regular practice in Bangladesh. But a review of doctors’ professionalism and career stages reveals a different story. There are obstacles from their side as well. Usually doctors do not get promotion if they do not do post graduation. General patients also feel comfortable to consult a specialist doctor for any problem.

But even if that specialist wants to become a doctor, there is no opportunity to do post-graduation in the district or even in the divisional city. They are forced to move to the capital. Since there are not many posts of specialist doctors, many cannot go back to rural areas even if they want to. The point is that just as one has to go to Dhaka to see a good doctor in a big hospital, similarly a doctor does not get the great degree and environment behind being a good doctor outside of Dhaka.

Doctor Kaneta, who passed the BCS health cadre, was appointed in Dhaka’s Dohar Upazila. He performed his duties there with great reputation. He has no problem even living in the village. But Kaneta dreams of becoming a cancer specialist. To do this, there is no option but to come to Dhaka. In this case, it is true that Kaneta has a great vow to serve people, and it is also true that Kaneta has to leave Doha if he wants to become a special doctor. This is a sweet pain.

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Professor Dr. Rezaul Karim Kajal said that doctors become more developed in the field of work when they are posted in big hospitals. Practitioners can put into practice what they read on the pages of books. Besides, he also talked about the safety of workplace, residence and doctors. If these are correct, even in the professional field, a doctor gets full mindset to serve properly.

Sheikh Hasina Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute Professor Dr. Ashraful Haque said that doctors are deprived of the protection that other administration officials get. Doctors also strive to attain a socially parallel position with contemporary BCS or other cadre officers.

Promotion in the medical profession is a slow process. After passing MBBS, doctors are not promoted like other cadres even if they are appointed as BCS cadre. There are not few examples of people who have retired as medical officers due to lack of post graduation. Medical higher education in the country is still dependent on BSMMU and Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons – these two institutions. For some time, I could get higher education in Rajshahi and Chittagong, but I had to come to Dhaka for administrative work. All in all, most of the doctors are waiting for posting in Dhaka.

It should be noted that the government has announced the opening of medical universities in every department of the country. Although 5 journeys have been started on paper, the activities have not started yet.
