It will be known on Sunday afternoon who will go to the polls for Awami League in the 12th National Parliament Election.
The party’s general secretary Obaidul Quader will announce the names of the boat candidates from the Awami League’s central office at Bangabandhu Avenue in Dhaka at 4 pm.
After the announcement of the schedule, 3 thousand 362 nomination forms of Awami League have been sold in four days. The party’s nomination board has finalized who will be the candidate for the 300 seats among the interested parties.
Before the announcement of the list, all the aspirants were called to Ganobhaban on Sunday morning. Party President, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina ‘exchanged views’ with them. Members of the National Election Steering Committee of the party also participated in it.
After this meeting, Road Transport and Bridge Minister Obaidul Quader will announce the final list of candidates from the party’s central office.
In the schedule announced by the Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal setting the polling date on January 7, he has set the last date for submission of nomination papers as November 30.
As new faces have come in the selection of candidates, as some of the previous ones have been dropped, Kader said earlier, “We have not dropped winable candidates. Will win the election – those who are electable, have been nominated.”
Awami League General Secretary said that some of those who sat in Parliament as boatmen in the 11th National Parliament elections are also dropping out this time.
Since 2008, Awami League has been holding elections in alliance. This time too they have decided to fight in an alliance, but the party has not said anything clear about who will be in the alliance.
Last November 18-21 was the deadline for collecting and submitting party nomination forms of Awami League.
In four days, 730 nomination forms were sold in Dhaka Division, 659 in Chittagong Division, 172 in Sylhet Division, 295 in Mymensingh Division, 258 in Barisal Division, 416 in Khulna Division, 302 in Rangpur Division and 409 in Rajshahi Division. The income of the party is 16 crore 81 lakh taka.
As per the schedule, the selection of nomination papers is from 1st to 4th December. The date for filing and disposal of appeals against the decision of the Returning Officer in the Commission is from 6 to 15 December and the last date for withdrawal of candidature is 17 December.
