Officials of the District Social Services Directorate and the local journalists were disenfranchised by the unauthorized committee of the Press Club, Rangpur. The investigation revealed many unethical practices. Press Club, Rangpur was established in 1965. Then in 1989, during the Ershad government’s tenure, the 34th century property in the heart of the city under the government’s special register was written for the welfare and improvement of the editors, publishers and working journalists of Rangpur district at a nominal price. The organization was registered in the year 1991 from the Social Service District Office. But every year from the year of registration, income and expenditure, approval of the selected committee, all care and supervision is the responsibility of the registration authority. Mysteriously, none of these have been observed in the past 33 years. As a result, the organization continues to embezzle crores of rupees given in various ways including government aid, grants, incentives. Not only that, but the construction of the press club complex started in 1999 with the then Deputy Commissioner, Rangpur as the chairman of the construction committee after fixing the cost of Tk 5 crore. Later, the local government secretary received another 1 crore 20 lakhs, 89 lakhs from Roads and Public Roads Rangpur and a hefty sum from the Zilla Parishad. Later, the Deputy Commissioner was removed by strategy. Around 400 shops in the complex with technical support from LGED. In 59 years of establishment of the organization and 33 years according to registration, the number of members is only 32. Excluding the constitution at the time of registration, the constitution was changed 3 times at different times and the power was axed in an unauthorized constitution. On this occasion, 350 shops of the complex were sold and everyone shared the money and embezzled it. More than 200 editors and working journalists of various newspapers in the district are deprived. Those who make a written complaint to the relevant government authorities seeking redressal of these irregularities and corruption will face conspiracies, assaults and false cases including unfair and unwanted cases. In order to eliminate the discrimination of Rangpur, the organization called Anti-Discrimination Journalist Andolan has sent a written notice to the relevant offices of the Interim Government including Rangpur Divisional Commissioner, Divisional Senior Information and Broadcasting, District Commissioner, Deputy Director and Divisional Director of District Social Services Directorate and Necessary arrangements come. In this regard, probation officer Nazrul Islam said, they will not obey their constitution and will not be accountable. We made an investigation committee. We have jurisdiction to investigate. We feel embarrassed because of the detention by the court. On the other hand, Awami League leader Marina Lovely filed a case in the court by making false allegations against journalist SM Zakir Hussain, Enamul Haque Swadhin and Sharifa Begum Shiuli, the main coordinator of the anti-discrimination journalist movement. Those who are aware are surprised by all these unethical activities of Press Club, Rangpur and the overall activities including lies, obstruction of investigation, cases against the registration authority against the deprived of rights. All the editors and working journalists of Rangpur demand to make the press club free of discrimination forever by appointing an administrator or a supervisory committee.
