Verdict in sensational murder case in Rajbari: Accused sentenced to death

The court ordered the death penalty to Biswajit (23) for beating to death a 75-year-old woman named Ashalata Das in Pansha of Rajbari. Along with that, a fine of 20 thousand taka has been imposed.

On September 5th (Thursday) around 12 o’clock in the afternoon, Judge Moshammat Zakia Parveen pronounced the verdict in the Rajbari Senior Sessions Judge’s Court by convicting him under Section 302 of the Penal Code 1860 and punishing him with death sentence and a fine of 20 thousand taka.

According to the complaint and court sources, the wife of the deceased Santosh Das of Premtia village of Sarisha Union of Pangsha Upazila of Rajbari fell asleep after eating on the night of February 12 this year. Neighbors informed the police after seeing the dead body on the balcony of the house on Tuesday (February 13) morning.

It is known that two daughters of Asalata Das. They got married long ago. Daughter-in-law, grandchildren all live in Pangsha city. Ashalata Das lived alone in the village house. The old house has a garden besides a pond, field land. Schools, haat bazaars have been established on the land donated by Asalta. There were separate people to look after these.

In the morning, the housekeeper saw the body of Ashalata Das lying on the balcony of the house and talked to the neighbors and informed the police.

Pangsha Model Police Station OC Swapan Kumar Majumdar said that during the operation of Pangsha Police Station, a person named Biswajit Kumar Biswas (23), son of Sujit Kumar Biswas of Sarisha, Pangsha, was arrested by the Police Station within 5 hours. Biswajit has confessed to the murder. Basically, the old woman was killed for robbing gold ornaments. The looted ornaments and the hammer used in the murder were recovered from the nearby pond. Later the accused was sent to the court.

Senior lawyer Swapan Kumar Biswas, the plaintiff in the case, expressed his satisfaction with the verdict.

Expressing satisfaction with the verdict, advocate Wazir Ali Sheikh, the lawyer for the state, said that the judge of the court announced the verdict of the case today after completing the evidence of the witnesses. The plaintiff got justice. I am satisfied that the verdict of the murder case was announced in just 7 months. I hope that if all the cases are judged quickly, the criminals will be punished and the plaintiffs will get justice.
