UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi, who is visiting Bangladesh, visited the Rohingya camp in Ukhia, Cox’s Bazar.
A 3-member delegation led by Filippo Grandi visited Rohingya Camp No. 12 in Balukhali, Palangkhali Union of the upazila last Friday. He inspected the activities of the UNHCR-run registration center in the camp. Later, after observing the camp area from the inspection tower of 8 West Rohingya Camp, he went to 1 East Rohingya Camp. In addition to exchanging views with imams and Rohingya guardians on community-based safety, security and peace, the head of the UN refugee agency UNHCR also participated in various activities in 4 Extension and 1 West Rohingya camps.
Regional Bureau of Asia and Pacific Director Hai Qun Jun, UNHCR Bangladesh Representative Ms. Sumbol Rizbi Mr. Romail Emmanuel, Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner Mizanur Rahman, officials of various UN agencies, and relevant officials of the camp administration were present.
After the inspection, the delegation left for Cox’s Bazar in the afternoon. In the afternoon, Filippo Grandi exchanged views with the Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner and the District Administrator. Earlier, on Thursday (February 27) night, he met with Principal Advisor Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus at the State Guest House Jamuna in the capital. The 11th UN High Commissioner for Refugees arrived in Bangladesh on a 4-day visit last Wednesday (February 26).
