Two youths die after falling from roof of moving train while making ‘TikTok video’

Two youths died after falling from the roof of a moving train while making a video in Akhaura, Brahmanbaria. Two more youths were seriously injured during the incident.

The accident occurred at around 11 am on Wednesday (April 2) in the Mogra Railway Bridge area of ​​the upazila.

The deceased are Abdul Qayyum Mia (22), son of Abdul Karim Mia of Debidwar upazila of Comilla, and Tarek Mia (20), a resident of Kasba upazila of Brahmanbaria. The injured are Ikram Hossain (18) and Billal Mia (25) of Kasba.

The railway police, relatives and locals said that the Sylhet-bound Paharika Express train leaving Chittagong passed the Gangasagar railway station in Akhaura around 11 am. When the train reached the Mogra Railway Bridge area of ​​Akhaura at around 11:30 am, four youths on the roof of the passenger compartment of the train stood up and started making a video. The three youths were making a video of one person. At that time, they got entangled in a wire passing over the railway line and fell from the roof. Qayyum Mia died on the spot. Local people rescued the three injured people. Two were taken to the Akhaura Upazila Health Complex and one to the Brahmanbaria General Hospital. Tarek Mia died on the way to the hospital.

Md. Lutfur Rahman, Resident Medical Officer of the Akhaura Upazila Health Complex, said that two people were brought to the Upazila Health Complex. Both were unconscious. They have been sent to the Brahmanbaria General Hospital for advanced treatment.

Gopa Pal and Sanjida Haque, Resident Medical Officers of the Brahmanbaria General Hospital, said that two people injured in the train accident were brought to the hospital. One has injuries to the skull and the other to the neck from a dish line wire. The condition of both is critical. They have been sent to Dhaka for advanced treatment.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Akhaura Railway Police Station Md. Jasim Uddin Khandaker said, “Four youths were standing on the roof of the train making TikTok videos. One of them fell from the roof and died on the spot and the other died in the hospital. The matter is being investigated. The bodies will be recovered and sent to the morgue.”
