Dumki (Patuakhali) Correspondent :Â Three people were injured in a clash between two groups of workers and supporters of Central BNP Vice-Chairman and former Home Minister Air Vice Marshal (Retd) Altaf Hossain Chowdhury on the Patuakhali Science and Technology University campus. The attack and clash took place at Mukta Bangla Chattar on the PUB campus at around 10 am yesterday, Sunday (February 23). According to campus sources, Altaf Hossain Chowdhury came to the PUB campus to participate in a preparatory meeting for the University Day to be held on February 26. At that time, Altaf Hossain Chowdhury was welcomed by his loyal workers and supporters led by Jasim Uddin Howlader, Ibrahim Khalil, and Matiur Rahman Dipu at the Mukta Bangla Chattar. A group of 10-15 people led by Anwar Hossain Howlader, including Bellal, Russell, and Babul, attacked the event, leading to a clash between the two groups. Upazila BNP Joint Organizing Secretary Md. Ibrahim, BNP leader Jasimuddin Howlader, and Matiur Rahman Dipu were seriously injured in the clash. After the injured were given primary treatment at the Dumki Upazila Health Complex, Ibrahim’s condition deteriorated and he was transferred to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital. Matiur Rahman Dipu, the plaintiff in this incident, has filed a written complaint against the accused at the Dumki Police Station. Accused BNP leader Anwar Hossain Howlader said that the incident of unwanted violence occurred due to not evaluating the defected leaders. Upazila BNP President Md. Khalilur Rahman said that we (upazila BNP) do not know anything about Altaf Hossain Chowdhury’s arrival at the Pobiprobi campus. The incident of attack and clash is unwanted and sad. Central BNP Vice-Chairman and former Home Minister Air Vice Marshal (Retd) Altaf Hossain Chowdhury termed the clash as an unexpected and unfortunate incident and said that an investigation is underway and the accused must be punished.
