Two-day Global SDG Youth Summit in Dhaka

Mohammad Masood Majumdar: The two-day Global SDG Youth Summit 2024 was held at the Military Museum of the capital Dhaka. It also announced the auspicious launch of a project called Eco Leaders. The two-day long SDG Youth Summit was attended by over 300 youths from across the country, including representatives of various public-private and development support organizations. Also, at the end of the SDG Summit on December 15, Eco leaders project was inaugurated by Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Advisor to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. It was attended by special guests – Deputy High Commissioner and Director of Development, British High Commission, James Goldman.

Planning Department Secretary Iqbal Abdullah Haroon, Director General of Youth Development Department (Grade-1), Dr. Gazi Md. Saifuzzaman, Director of Sustainable and Renewable Energy Development Authority (SREDA), Engineer Md. Mujibur Rahman and Professor Emeritus, BRAC University, Professor Dr. Ainun Nishat.

The project named Eco Leader will be implemented by non-governmental development organization The Earth in collaboration with the Foreign Commonwealths and Development Office. Earlier, the two-day Global SDG Youth Summit held 6 thematic discussions – Climate Programme, Biodiversity Conservation and Renewable Energy; Education Curriculum and Socio- Economic Development of Bangladesh; health, wellness and gender equality; media awareness, empowerment and citizen participation;50 panellists on climate resilience and climate migration on youth participation and innovation, employment and entrepreneurship. UK International Development was a strategic partner in this summit organized by The Earth. Collaborators were Young Power in Social Action-Ipsa, Dhaka International University, Mati O Manush, Asian Pacific Research and Research Center for Women, Participatory Research and Action Network, BYS, UNDP’s Ami and Sunagarik. Knowledge Partner – Change Initiative. Youth partners were Mission Green Bangladesh and We Can Cox’s Bazar. Chief executive of Change Initiative M. Zakir Hossain Khan, Clean Executive Director Hasan Mehdi, The Earth Executive Director Mohammad Mamun Miah and Asian Pacific Research and Research Center for Women. The closing ceremony was attended by Ahsan Adelur Rahman, Director of Soil and People, Mohammad Mamun Miah, Executive Director of The Earth, Shirin Sultana Lira, Program Manager of the Swiss Embassy.A declaration named Dhaka Declaration was presented in it. Where the views of the youth are valued to empower them.
