The family of the victim Abdul Qaddus held a press conference against a newly appointed magistrate in Trishal, Mymensingh, accusing him of abuse of power and police harassment. Abdul Qaddus and his family members held a press conference at Trishal Press Club on Sunday (March 31) afternoon to express their helplessness and suffering.
In the press conference, Abdul Qaddus said, I am a resident of Ujan Bailor village of Bailor union of Trishal upazila. My neighbor Ruhul Amin’s son Sadrul Alam Siyam was appointed as Magistrate 2 years ago. After he became a magistrate, he tried to forcibly occupy one percent of my house’s land. If he doesn’t own this land, there is no road for the car to go home. It is a matter of his honor if the car does not go to the house. He is trying to evict us from the house without being able to occupy the land. We break the trees and plants of our house. Forced to sell land to them. As I did not sell the land, they sent the police to my house. So far they have sent police to my house for at least 8/10 days and scared us. My son Mehdi Hasan Saddam and my old wife Umme Kulsoom (70) were forcibly arrested and brought to the police station during Sehri with a false case. Later, my wife and children were released on bail. This Siam has been harassing me and my family in various ways after becoming a magistrate. I want a fair trial.
Abdul Qaddus’ daughter said, “We are fed up with Siam’s torture.” Siam abuses my parents in unspeakable language. We want freedom from the tyranny of this magistrate, abuse of power. We want freedom from police harassment.
