Transparency and accountability should be ensured in distribution of government allocations – Hill Adviser

Mr. Supradeep Chakma, adviser on Chittagong Hill Tracts and former ambassador, said that the main objective of the current interim government is to eliminate all forms of discrimination, promote human rights for all and reform based on equality and justice. He said that no corruption will be tolerated in the distribution of government allocations. He instructed the concerned parties to ensure transparency and accountability of the government allocation materials for the affected people of Chittagong Hill Tracts in the recent violence to the right people.
Chittagong Hill Tract Affairs Adviser Supradeep Chakma gave this instruction to the concerned in the chief guest’s speech at the review meeting regarding the annual development program for the month of August 2024 held in the meeting room of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Complex building in the capital’s Bailey Road today.
Adviser Supradeep Chakma directed the concerned to empower the District Commissioner to withdraw the sanctioned amount. He instructed to properly comply with the terms and conditions of all the circulars issued in the past 2002 to 2006 in the use of allocated money.
Former Ambassador Adviser Supradeep Chakma said, transparency and accountability should be ensured during the distribution of government allocations to the right beneficiaries, especially in social security and poverty alleviation. The advisor instructed the concerned to strengthen the system of overall monitoring including inspection and necessary instructions by the competent representative from the Ministry.
Following the instructions of Advisor Supradeep Chakma, food grains were allotted to the affected people from the special project program of the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts on 22 September 2024. In view of the 150 families affected by violence in Dighinala Upazila of Khagrachari district, 40 kg per person on May 6. Tons of rice, 4 million tons of rice as 20 kg per person among 200 poor people, 10 million tons of rice as 20 kg per person among 500 poor people in Khagrachari town and poor temporary street vendors in Rangamati town Shopkeepers and 500 poor people are allotted 10 me.tons of rice as 20 kg, totaling 30 me.tons of rice along with Deputy Commissioner Khagrachari and Rangamati. Apart from this, in Dighinala Upazila of Khagrachari hill district, to deal with the emergency situation of the victims of recent violence, 5 liters of bottled soybean oil per person, 5 kg of lentils per person and 2 lakh 20 thousand 500 taka have been allocated.
In the letter signed by Maleka Parveen, Deputy Secretary of the Ministry, there is an instruction to send the progress report to the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts regarding the distribution of food grains (rice) allocated to the poor people affected by the recent violence in the hilly areas regarding the implementation of the special project program. Instructions are given to follow each and every condition of the policy issued last October 19, 2006 by this Ministry regarding the implementation of special project program in the use of allocated food grains. Accounts of allotted food grains should be properly preserved for audit and report regarding food grains should be sent to the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs in time and allotted food grains should be removed from local warehouses in time.
Under the chairmanship of Secretary of Chittagong Hill Tract Affairs Ministry AKM Shamimul Haque Chiddiki, additional secretary of the ministry, joint secretary and other officials of the three hill districts were present.
