The railway authorities have decided to suspend train movement from Chattogram due to submerge water over rail line at various places in Feni and Cumilla.
Beside, all intercity trains running from Chattogram to Dhaka and other parts of the country have been suspended since noon for sinking of the railway lines and water is flowing over the railway bridge.
Two Dhaka-bound Subarna Express and Sylhet-bound Paharika Express trains left Chattogram railway station on Thursday morning but could not reach their destinations.
The railway lines from Feni to Fazilpur were submerged under water. There have been reports of uprooting of railway lines in Comilla due to flood water. Flood water has accumulated at Feni station.
A total of 11 intercity trains run daily from Chattogram to Dhaka, Jamalpur, Sylhet and Chandpur.
Apart from this, local and commuter trains run regularly in Cox’s Bazar, Nazirhat, Chandpur, Dhaka and Mymensingh.
Chattogram Railway Station Master Shafiqul Islam told BSS that train movement has been suspended under the guidance of the higher authorities. Due to floods, the railway lines in Feni and Cumilla were submerged.
Railway Divisional Manager Mohammad Saiful Islam told BSS that water is flowing over the railway lines and railway bridges in Feni. The same situation happened in a railway bridge in Sylhet. Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar railway line has also collapsed. The authority has been decided to stop train movement from Chattogram to ensure the safety of passengers and the railway assets.
