Entertainment Desk: February 14 is Valentine’s Day, the day that is celebrated worldwide as Valentine’s Day. People in various relationships, including lovers, friends, husbands and wives, mothers and children, students and teachers, express their love to each other on this day.

Currently, this day is celebrated with great joy and celebration all over the world. On this day, parks and entertainment centers are full of people in love. On this day, everyone gives flowers and various gifts to their loved ones. World Valentine’s Day was not celebrated worldwide until a few years ago.

This day was limited to the United States or Western society. Today, the day is celebrated with great joy and madness in countries around the world. In ancient Rome, February 14 was a holiday in honor of Juno, the queen of the Roman gods. People believed that Juno was the goddess of women and love.

According to some, this was the reason why February 14 became Valentine’s Day. Another person says that the Roman Emperor Claudius banned marriage in the country in 200 AD. He declared that no young man would be able to marry from February 14. Only war is for young men.

According to him, if young men get married, who will fight? A young man protested this unjust declaration of Emperor Claudius. His name was Valentine. The emperor was enraged by the protest of this infinitely brave young man. He was sentenced to death as a punishment for treason. He was beheaded at the dawn of February 14. Since then, this day has been celebrated as Valentine’s Day to commemorate Valentine’s sacrifice for love.

However, this is not universally accepted. There is disagreement here too.

According to some, there was a doctor named Valentine in ancient Rome. He was very kind to his patients. Since it was difficult for sick people to take medicine, he would mix bitter medicine with wine, milk or honey. That doctor converted to Christianity.

Christianity was not popular in ancient Rome at that time. Believers in this religion were punished. One day, a Roman jailer brought his blind daughter to Valentine for treatment. Valentine promised that he would treat her as best he could. While the girl was being treated, suddenly one day Roman soldiers came and tied Valentine up.

Valentine realized that he would be killed for being a Christian. In 269 AD or according to some, on February 14, 270 AD, Valentine was executed by order of the Roman Emperor Claudius. Before that, Valentine had written a note saying goodbye to the blind girl. After killing her, the jailer gave the note to the girl.

It read, “This is your Valentine.” The girl could see the amazingly beautiful colors of the yellow flowers of spring inside the note because in the meantime, the girl’s sight had returned to her blind eyes after Valentine’s treatment. For these feats of love, Pope Gelasius declared February 14 as Valentine’s Day in 496 AD. Since then, people have been celebrating this day as Valentine’s Day.

There are several completely different opinions about the origin of Valentine’s Day. People of this opinion say that Valentine has nothing to do with sending love messages to loved ones.

In ancient times, people believed that February 14 was the wedding day of birds. Birds lay eggs in the second week of the second month of the year. Others say that in the late Middle Ages, people believed that the mating season of birds began on this day. Birds look for partners. People also choose partners on this day after seeing birds.

Although Valentine’s Day originated in 496 AD, it did not gain much publicity and spread worldwide at first. In the West, birthday celebrations and religious festivals are the main issue in all areas.

Therefore, they do not refrain from drinking alcohol even inside the church. The French government banned the Valentine’s Day festival in 1776, accusing it of destroying Christian spirit due to Valentine’s Day. The ruling Puritans in England also banned the celebration of this day administratively at one time. In addition, this day was rejected by the people and the government at various times in Austria, Hungary and Germany.

Nowadays, the value of Valentine’s Day has increased greatly. Currently, this festival is celebrated in a grand manner in the West. People in the UK and the US spend about several million dollars on this day on this day.

People buy cards, flowers, chocolates and other gifts for Valentine’s Day. About 30 million greeting cards are exchanged on this day in the United States.

Due to its wide publicity and attraction, this day has now become known as a major day.
