Supradeep Chakma, Advisor to the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs, said, “We want to move forward by bringing all the communities living in the hills together for the development of the Chittagong Hill Tracts.” He said, “We do not want any discrimination in the hills, this government is working towards building a discrimination-free Bangladesh.”
Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Advisor Supradeep Chakma made these remarks while speaking as the chief guest at the closing ceremony of the Shangrai Festival 2025 organized by the Marma Cultural Organization of Assambasti at the Ching Hla Mong Mari Stadium in Rangamati on Saturday, April 19.
Advisor on Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Supradeep Chakma also said, “We want to change the fate of the people of the hilly region along with the socio-economic development of every community. For this, everyone has to work sincerely.” He said, “Along with development, education-based development and a balanced environment are needed. It is very important to build this.”
The Jalkeli festival was attended by the European Union Ambassador and his wife and daughter, the Italian Ambassador, the Netherlands Ambassador, and the Dutch Lawyer, along with Hill Advisor Supradeep Chakma.
After the opening ceremony, the chief guest and other guests inaugurated the Jalkeli festival by cutting the ribbon and sprinkling water.
After this, the young people divided into groups and splashed water on each other, using water kept in small dinghies. Everyone enjoyed the water-playing festival.
Along with the water play, a delightful cultural program is held, in which artists perform songs and dances.
The Jalkeli program was presided over by Thoai Sui Khai Marma, president of Rangamati Marma Cultural Association-MASS, who was determined to preserve his own language, culture and heritage.
