Today Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd.) has said that there will be no place for rapists in Bangladesh. All those accused in the Magura incident have already been arrested. The government is working to ensure their maximum punishment through legal process. Similarly, if any violence or rape against women occurs anywhere in the country, they will be fully brought under the law. Their maximum punishment will be ensured. The government’s stance against rape in Bangladesh is ‘zero tolerance’. The advisor said these things at a news briefing on law and order in the meeting room of the Ministry of Law at the Bangladesh Secretariat this afternoon. The advisor said, our position against rape, including violence against women and children, is very clear. I have instructed the law enforcement forces to take a strict stance against all types of violence against women and children, including rape. He said that a list of all the violence against women has been made and a report has been submitted to the court after completing the investigation. The criminals involved in the recent rape incidents will be ensured to be tried and brought to strict punishment. He also said that women will perform their duties at home and abroad fearlessly and without hindrance. Those who come to hinder them and commit violence will be brought under the law. There will be no concessions in this regard. In addition to taking legal steps against rape and violence against women and children, social movements and awareness should be created. Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd.) said that after Friday prayers last Friday, members of the banned organization Hizb ut Tahrir took out a procession in the Baitul Mukarram area. Later, it was broken up due to police obstruction and some of them were arrested. He said that the government has adopted a ‘zero tolerance’ policy in this regard. No banned organization will be allowed to conduct any political activities in any way. Law enforcement agencies are on alert in this regard. The Home Affairs Advisor said that a few days ago, a SI was beaten up by some local drug addicts, miscreants and robbers in Patenga, Chittagong by forming a mob, who were later arrested and brought under the law. He said that any attack on law enforcement agencies will not be tolerated, it will be suppressed with a strong hand. In case of any incident, inform the nearest police station and law enforcement officers. They will take necessary measures as per the law. Stating that the government is working to maintain the law and order situation during Ramadan, the Advisor said that more than a hundred check posts have been set up at important points in the capital and the number of patrols has been increased in crime-prone areas. Joint forces consisting of the army, various units of the police and the BGB are conducting intensive operations in target areas. He said that the law enforcement agencies are working to prevent extortion and robbery during Ramadan and to ensure the overall safety of buyers and sellers traveling to various shopping malls. He also said that the law enforcement agencies have been instructed to take necessary measures to prevent extortion and robbery on highways in order to make the journey home of the general public safe and smooth during Ramadan and the upcoming Eid. The advisor also said that the video footage of all the crimes that are available will be collected, fact-checked, identified the criminals and further action will be taken according to the law.
