Desk Report: Reiterating its position on the July Uprising declaration, the interim government has said that the government will not issue any declaration. It will come based on the proposals of the students and the consensus of all political parties, cultural and social organizations.
Mahfuz Alam, advisor to the interim government, made this known at a briefing at the Foreign Service Academy auditorium in the capital on Thursday (January 9) afternoon.
He said that there will be a lot of confusion over the issue of the July Uprising declaration. The students have already made proposals regarding the declaration. But the government will not issue the declaration. The government is working on the process of the declaration.
‘The proclamation will come based on everyone’s consensus. It will be based on the consensus of all political parties, groups, cultural and social organizations. If there is a proclamation with everyone’s consent, it will be good for Bangladesh.’
Mahfuz Alam said, so these two things (who will issue the proclamation) are completely different. We are not issuing any proclamation by the government itself. The proclamation will be made based on the students’ proposals and everyone’s consensus.
He said, the students had announced that they would issue a proclamation. But when the government felt that the matter was only from the students’ side, it could be harmful to the stability and unity of Bangladesh. As a result, the government has taken the responsibility to prepare a proclamation after discussing with everyone.
The advisor said, “We hope that the government will talk to all the parties involved in the mass uprising and decide on the declaration next week with everyone’s consent and when the declaration will be published. Discussions with political parties on this issue will also begin next week.”
On December 31, the leaders of the anti-discrimination student movement announced at the Central Shaheed Minar to read the declaration of the July mass uprising. At that time, the press secretary of the chief advisor, Shafiqul Alam, held a press conference and said that the government has nothing to do with the students reading the declaration. This is their ‘private initiative’. A day after this statement, the press secretary said that the government will prepare the declaration of the July mass uprising.
Meanwhile, briefing advisor Mahful Alam said that the students’ demand was to prepare the declaration by January 15. This time may be extended a little. For this, he urged the students to be patient.
