Bangabandhu’s dream of Sonar Bangla, there is no alternative to enrich the fisheries and livestock sector, said Md. Abdur Rahman, Minister of Fisheries and Livestock and member of Awami League’s presidential council.
The Minister made this comment while delivering the chief guest speech at the Final Workshop and Fair of Artemia for Bangladesh Project organized by World Fish Bangladesh at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center on June 11, Tuesday morning.
The Fisheries Minister said, Artemia is an important component of fish feed, by producing which we can increase the production of fish. Besides, we can also earn foreign exchange through artemia production. He said, with the funding of the European Union and the initiative of World Fish, artemia cultivation is being done along with salt cultivation in our coastal areas, as a result of which the production of fish, especially shrimp, is increasing. He said at that time that it is important to increase the production of fish food to meet the challenges that we have to face due to climate change. He thanked the European Union and World Fish for taking up such productive projects including the Artemia for Bangladesh project to advance Bangladesh’s fisheries sector.
The Minister of Fisheries said that we have moved from the third place to the second place in the world in freshwater fish production. And this is possible because of the prudent leadership of the honorable Prime Minister Jannetri Sheikh Hasina. Stating that we have set a target of 85 lakh metric tons of fish production in 2041, the Fisheries Minister further said that as the honorable Prime Minister is taking the country forward with various groundbreaking steps, we will be able to achieve the target in fish production under his guidance.
The Fisheries Minister said that our nation is a nation that faces all challenges and moves ahead by overcoming all obstacles and obstacles. This nation became independent through an armed revolution under the leadership of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. This nation has faced the artificial crisis that was created in the years 72, 73 and 74 and today Bangladesh has been established in the world as a wonderful country in development by the hands of honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
He said, if we want to see Bangladesh where we want to see it in 2041, we need to enrich these fisheries and livestock resources. We have to be prepared not only to achieve self-sufficiency in these two sectors, but also to earn the desired amount of foreign exchange from these sectors.
He expressed hope that new projects will be accepted in the coming days with the financing of World Fees and European Union. He said, our main goal is to build a smart Bangladesh by the year 2041, the golden Bangladesh of Bangabandhu’s dream. And to build Bangabandhu’s dream of Sonar Bangla, fisheries and livestock sector must be enriched. There is no alternative.
Regarding providing policy support for artemia cultivation and increase in fish production, he said, the type of policy support required to take this sector forward must be provided by the ministry.
Fisheries and Livestock Ministry Secretary Syed Mahmud Belal Haider and European Union Ambassador and Head of Delegation Charles Whiteley were present as special guests in the event chaired by Director General of Fisheries Syed Md Alamgir. In addition, the Director General of Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute as guest of honor. Md. Zulfikar Ali and Emeritus Professor Patrick Sargelus of Ghent University, Belgium were present.
