A massive crackdown is underway against illegal expatriates who violate Kuwait’s residency laws. Recently, the country’s security agencies have carried out this operation in two other areas of the capital Kuwait City. At that time, many illegal immigrants were arrested.

Abdullah Salem, governor of Kuwait City, said that he himself was present in this operation along with high-ranking security officers. He said, this sudden operation is a part of our security supervision.

He also said that a similar operation was conducted in the southern part of Kuwait City, Al Fawarnia. The country’s Ministry of Interior has said that many people have been arrested there.

Those who have been arrested will be sent back to their home country along with taking legal action against them. Deportees face a lifetime ban on entry to Kuwait and five years to other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. However, the relevant authorities of the country did not specify exactly how many people will be taken such action against.

In March this year, illegal immigrants in Kuwait were given three months to become legal. During this time, no action was taken against anyone. But even at this time, the country is conducting an operation against those who could not be legal. The country’s Ministry of Home Affairs said that such operations will continue against expatriates who have not validated their documents after getting enough time.

Even, during those three months, the Kuwaiti government gave the illegal immigrants the opportunity to return to their country without any kind of jail-fine. Those who took advantage of the opportunity to leave Kuwait will be able to re-enter the country legally if they wish. But now arrested expats can no longer enter the country.

In total, 4.8 million people live in Kuwait, of which 3.3 million are foreigners. Although the country is dependent on expatriates, recently they have started taking strict action against illegal expatriates.
