A young man named Bandhan Molya (28) was rescued and handed over to Daulatdia Naval Police after jumping into the river fearing to be caught while robbing. Bandhan is the son of Malek Molla of Taltali in Barguna district.
On August 5 (Saturday) around 11 am, a woman’s bag was stolen from Barkat, a ro-ro ferry bound for Paturia from Daulatdia, when the ferry passengers jumped into the Padma river.
Seeing that he was swept away by the river, he rescued the young man with a trawler. A fishmonger named Chandu Molla. Later the young man was handed over to the naval police on suspicion of being a hijacker.
Fish trader Chandu Molla said he was sitting in his business. Suddenly I saw a person floating in the river. After that, he rescued him from the middle of ferry pier number 5 and 7 of the river with a trawler. After some time, it would not have been possible to rescue the young man. Because he was tired and began to sink. After bringing him to the bank of the river, he found out from the locals that the person was a robber. He later handed him over to the naval police.’
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Daulatdia Naval Police Outpost Sirajul Kabir said that the young man jumped into the river from Barakat, a Ro-Ro ferry that left Daulatdia for Paturia. At that time, the locals rescued him with a trawler and handed him over to the police.
He also said that while robbing the ferry, the young man jumped into the river after being chased by the people. A drug case is pending against him in the DMP. He was released from jail last month. He has 2 sons aged 6 and 11 years. The interrogation revealed that they are studying in a madrasa. He said that the legal process in this regard is under process. ‘
It is known that long ago he used to work in a hotel in Daulatdia, then from there he married a girl from Patita Palli and moved to his own district. The girl later ran away with another person. Now Bandhan is vagrant in nature, he is involved in various crimes like drug consumption, selling and robbery.
