Terrorists set fire to a house in Zuluhar village of Swarupkathi in Pirojpur, after not receiving the subscription. The incident happened on Saturday night at the house of Bimal Krishna Bepari of Juluhar village in Samudayakathi union of the upazila. Bimal Krishna Bepari was not at home at the time of the incident.
Bimal Krishna Bepari’s wife Rina Bepari has filed a statement at the police station on Sunday night, accusing 4 named and 3 unknown people in the incident. Police raided and arrested a person named Ilyas.
Among the locals Sanjay and Milton said that the terrorists went to that house and started rampaging from eight o’clock on the day of the incident. They demanded 30 thousand rupees. If we protest, we get into a fight. They kept abusing till 12 o’clock in the night. Then they left. We also go to everyone’s house. At around three o’clock in the night, Bimal Krishna set Bepari’s house on fire. We saw Chitta Ranjan Bepari’s son Chinmoy Bepari, Bidhan Mridha’s son Shubo Mridha, Nabir Hussain Howlader’s son Ilyas Howlader, Babu Ram Sheel’s son Dillon Sheel. Later they brought more people.
The plaintiff in the case, Rina Bepari, complained that she came to our house around eight o’clock on Saturday and called my husband by name and asked her to come out of the house. They said call your husband, we have to pay 30 thousand taka. When he said that he was not at home, they started abusing him without hearing a word, thus harassing him till 12 in the night, they left. At night they came again and shouted that if we did not come out at night, they first vandalized my chicken house and then set fire to the paddy straw. At the time, he shouted and said, “I will not leave the house yet.” As I was taking you out of the house, there was a piece of jute in the house that set it on fire, and within moments the fire spread everywhere. At that time, when he shouted, he saw people running and threatened to leave. Already the fire spread throughout the house.
Victim Bimal Krishna Bepari said, I was not at home yesterday. The local drug-addicted terrorists are extortionist Chinmoy Bepari, Ilyas, Shubo and Dillon Sheel. I was being extorted. They disturb my wife and daughter. He came to my house around eight o’clock on Saturday night and demanded thirty thousand rupees. He took 10,000 rupees once before. I have a work boy and told him, you work in that house and you will pay ten thousand rupees or I will throw out Bimal Krishna’s wife from the house later in the evening. The immediate investigator of the incident, Inspector Md. Shahin said that the terrorists are identified terrorists of the area. They did this because they did not pay the subscription. All the furniture including 40 maunds of paddy, 5 lakh rupees of betel nuts, 2 lakh rupees in cash and gold ornaments were burnt to ashes.
Nesharabad fire service personnel went to the spot after receiving information about the fire. The fire service could not reach the spot due to the narrow and crooked road. By that time everything was burnt to ashes. Monirul Islam, in-charge of Fire Service Nesharabad Station, said the fire was extinguished before we reached. No immediate damage information was available.
In this regard, the OC of Nesharabad police station said. Golam Sarwar said that a case has been registered in this incident. Ilyas Hossain, the named accused in the case, has been arrested. Efforts to arrest others are ongoing.
