A teenager who was seriously injured after being caught in a paddy threshing machine in Maheshkhali, Cox’s Bazar, died while undergoing treatment last Sunday. The deceased teenager’s name is Arj Mia (17). He is the son of Siraj Mia of Purba Jamalpara (Marajhiri) village in Hoanak Union of Maheshkhali Upazila. The deceased’s father, Siraj Mia, said, “My son Arj Mia was an eighth-grade student of Hoanak Bahumukhi High School. Due to financial hardship, I took him out of school and employed him to work as a paddy thresher in a tractor to earn money.” Last Wednesday afternoon, while starting the machine to thresh paddy at a house in Kalagazi Para area of Hoanak, the muffler around his son’s neck inadvertently got caught in the wheel of the machine. At that time, he got caught in the machine while catching the muffler and was seriously injured. He was rescued and first taken to Maheshkhali, then to Cox’s Bazar and finally to Chittagong Treatment Hospital for treatment. In the end, it was not possible to save him. The boy breathed his last at 6:20 pm last Sunday.
