Mosiur Rahman Rasel:
Consumer market “Svasti” for farmers’ products has been launched under the supervision of the upazila administration in Jhalkathi’s Nalchiti. Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Mr. Md. Nazrul Islam inaugurated it on Thursday (November 14) morning.
Meanwhile, farmers from different areas of the upazila brought their produce to Vasti market for sale. Buyers also expressed relief to be able to purchase essential items at relatively low prices.
According to upazila administration sources, this market has been organized to give relief to the public from unbridled commodity prices. Here vegetables, eggs, fish, meat are sold at affordable prices. Directly a farmer will sell his produce to the consumer, there is no place for any foria or middleman. So the price of the product will be lower than the comparable market and the price of the product will be at a bearable level by breaking the market syndicate.
Buyer Naim Islam said that the price of some products here is lower than other markets. Some products are priced the same as other markets. But if farmers bring their produce regularly then the price will come down further. We want it to stay on. This market needs to break syndicates.
Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Mr. Md. Nazrul Islam said that this market has been launched to deliver the products produced by the farmers directly to the consumers. For now, the market will be running for seven days on an experimental basis. Then the time will be extended if the public wants it. He further said that the farmer’s produce consumer market “Swasti” has a corner called “Swasti for the distressed” for the distressed and destitute where other buyers can buy and leave any produce they want. Later the product will be distributed among the needy and helpless people.
