Sporst Desk: waiting to see something dramatic happen. But sometimes something happens that is even more dramatic. This is what happened in the Hong Kong and Bahrain match in the Malaysia Tri-Nation T20 series on Friday.

In the match held at the Bayuyamus Oval Stadium in Kuala Lumpur, the experience of playing the Super Over had to be used to determine the result. Hong Kong won the match in the end by staging a dramatic story.

Batting first, Hong Kong scored 129 runs for 7 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. In reply, Bahrain scored 129 runs for 8 wickets after playing all the balls of the innings. As a result, the match went to the Super Over.

Fans expected the Super Over to be as competitive as the main match. But what happened was unbelievable.

Bahrain came out to bat first in the Super Over. Hong Kong’s off-spinner Ehsan Khan came to the ball. He gave a dot to Bahraini batter Ahmed Nasir on the first ball. He then took two wickets (Ahmed Nasir and Shoail Ahmed) in two consecutive balls. As a result, Bahrain was all out without scoring any runs in the Super Over.

According to the rules, if a team loses 2 wickets in the Super Over, it is considered all out.

Chasing a target of zero runs in the Super Over, Hong Kong batsman Babar Hayat gave a dot on the first two balls but took one run off the third ball to give the team victory.

As a result, Bahrain wrote their name in the record books. They became the first team in the history of international T20s to not score any runs in the Super Over. Previously, the lowest score in a Super Over was Afghanistan. They scored only 1 run against India on January 17, 2024.

Although it was a first in international T20s, such an incident has happened several times before in T20 cricket. The first time it happened was in the 2009 Champions League T20. The match between English club Sussex and South African club Eagles ended in a tie. Both teams scored 119 runs.

For Sussex, all-rounder Yasir Arafat bowled a super over and gave away 9 runs against Eagles batsmen Riley Russo and Ryan McLaren. CJ de Villiers bowled for Eagles and dismissed Dwayne Smith and Rory Hamilton-Brown in consecutive balls. As a result, his team won.
