A protest march was held in Pirojpur on the initiative of ordinary students against the rape, rape and murder of women across the country, including the rape of Asia in Magura.

The protest march, which started at 11 am on Monday (March 10) from the Central Shaheed Minar in Pirojpur, circled the city’s main roads and ended with a rally at the old bus stand.

The students participating in the protest raised various slogans against rape. Their slogans included— “Who are you? Who am I? Achiya, Achiya”, “We want justice, no more rapist”, “Catch each rapist, try them one by one”, “My sister’s cry, no more”, “In my golden Bengal, rapists have no place” and “Rapists must be given the maximum punishment”.

The protesters carried various anti-rape placards and demanded the maximum punishment for rapists.

Speakers at the rally said, “The student community launched the movement with the dream of a fair and safe Bangladesh. But women are still not safe. From children to housewives—no one is safe from rapists. We did not want a Bangladesh where women would be subjected to torture.”

They demanded the death penalty for rapists under the Speedy Trial Act. The speakers called for the trial and punishment of the criminals within a week and demanded strict measures to ensure the safety of women.
