The Trinamool Journalist Society in Rajbari has submitted a signature to the DC demanding cancellation of the expired illegal committee of Rajbari Press Club, first accepting new members and later holding elections. At this time, journalists from local print and electronic media including Turya and Hasibul Hasan of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement were present and submitted a memorandum to Rajbari Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Sultana Akhter. The Deputy Commissioner assured to take action in this regard within a very short time. The signature was submitted on January 19 (Sunday) at noon.
The memorandum mentions that for 16 years, Rajbari Municipal Awami League Vice President Advocate Khan Md. Zahurul Haque, Rajbari Press Club President and former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s traveling companion to the UN session, local daily Matrikantha editor Khondaker A. Matin, General Secretary, has been managing Awami League leaders and activists and making District Awami League General Secretary Kazi Iradat Ali a lifetime member and running the pocket committee. They have been in power for 16 years without any elections. They have shared government grants among 8-10 members, while other journalists have been deprived.
After the fall of the government on August 5, when the press club was locked by journalists against discrimination on August 6, General Secretary Khondaker A. Matin assured that a press club would be formed with everyone. But on January 18, after the meeting of the executive committee of Rajbari Press Club, a decision was taken to form a committee and then form members.
Boycotting this decision, Trinamool anti-discrimination journalists in Rajbari submitted a memorandum to the Rajbari Deputy Commissioner. They demanded that no more elections be held under the current committee and demanded that a convening committee be formed to accept members and hold elections later.
At that time, Bijoy TV representative journalists Sheikh Ali Al Mamun, Morshed Alam Malek, Kabir Hossain, Bablu Sheikh and 20-25 journalists from the district gathered in front of the Deputy Commissioner to demand their demands.
While accepting the memorandum, the Deputy Commissioner assured that he would look into the matter seriously. There is a wide discussion going on in the journalist community of Rajbari regarding this.
