Seven colleges will no longer be affiliated

Seven government colleges are being separated from the affiliation of Dhaka University (DU). Admission tests for seven colleges under Dhaka University are being discontinued from the 2024-25 session.

The principals of seven government colleges reached this decision in an emergency meeting with Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan on Monday (January 27) afternoon.

The meeting was held in the lounge adjacent to the university’s vice-chancellor’s office. After the meeting, the vice-chancellor briefed journalists in the virtual classroom of Professor Abdul Matin Chowdhury.

In a written statement, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan said that the Dhaka University administration has already expressed sincere regret over the unwanted incident regarding the seven government colleges affiliated with the university and has called on the students of Dhaka University and the seven government colleges affiliated with it to maintain patience, harmony and cordial relations.

‘Today, Monday afternoon, an emergency meeting of the university administration was held with the principals of the seven government colleges affiliated with me. 5 decisions were taken in the meeting.’

The decisions are as follows:

1. A decision was taken on the honorable separation of seven government colleges affiliated with Dhaka University.

2. It was decided to change the previous decision regarding the admission process of seven government colleges affiliated with Dhaka University and bring it forward by one year and not take admission under Dhaka University from this year i.e. from the 2024-25 academic year.

3. As per the demands of the students, the meeting strongly recommended that the activities of the next academic year from the 2024-25 academic year be conducted through an expert committee formed by the Ministry of Education on December 29.

4. As per the demands of the students from the 2024-25 academic year, the expert committee formed by the Ministry will decide on all matters including determining the number of seats and admission fees.

5. The university administration will be responsible for the students who are currently under the ongoing educational programs of Dhaka University, so that their educational life is not affected in any way.

In the press briefing, the Vice-Chancellor called on everyone to unite and play a responsible role from their respective positions to keep the educational programs running.
