After a long decade, BNP National Standing Committee member and former Minister of State for Communications Salahuddin Ahmed has returned to his native Cox’s Bazar. He landed at Cox’s Bazar Airport at 11:30 pm on Wednesday (August 28).

To welcome him, thousands of leaders and activists of BNP’s organs and affiliated organizations gathered in Cox’s Bazar airport and surrounding areas from morning. They stand in a row on both sides of the road for several kilometers.

When Salahuddin Ahmed got off the plane and came to the resting place, BNP central leader Lutfar Rahman Kajal, district BNP president Shahjahan Chowdhury and other leaders welcomed him.

Meanwhile, the highway from the airport to the entire Cox’s Bazar city and Chakria-Pekua has been covered with pylons-banners-festoons to welcome the BNP’s top leader. When he came to Cox’s Bazar, the airport and surrounding streets were crowded with activists. Meanwhile, a long traffic jam was created in Shaheed Sarani, Thana Road, Airport Road, Jhautla area.

Salahuddin Ahmed will go to his native Pekua by road from Cox’s Bazar. Before this he will address various road meetings in Pekua. He will then address a public meeting organized by the local BNP in Pekua in the evening.

During this visit, Salahuddin Ahmed will stay in Cox’s Bazar for a week. During this time he will visit the graves of those killed in the student uprising and meet their family members.

Cox’s Bazar district BNP president and former whip Shahjahan Chowdhury said that we are not fully prepared to welcome Salahuddin Ahmed.

On June 14, 2014, Salahuddin Ahmad returned to Dhaka after finishing the political rally in Cox’s Bazar. He went missing from Dhaka on March 10, 2015. He was later arrested by the Shillong police on May 11 of that year while ‘roaming aimlessly’ in Shillong, Meghalaya state, India. A case of illegal entry was registered in his name.

However, on the night of May 10 of the same year, Salahuddin Ahmad was allegedly taken away from a residential building in Uttara of the capital.
