A gang of robbers has entered the Jinjira branch of Rupali Bank in Chunkutia Pakapul area of South Keraniganj Police Station in the capital. Law enforcement officers, including police, army and RAB, have surrounded the bank to arrest the robbers and rescue the hostages.
It is learned that a gang of robbers entered the bank branch on Thursday afternoon.
Sources said that the robbers have taken several customers, including bank officials and employees, hostage inside the building. Law enforcement officers have surrounded the bank to rescue the hostages. They said that the operation will start at any time.
Motalib Hossain, a resident of Chunkutia area, said that we ran after hearing shouts from the bank area around noon. At that time, the gang of robbers entered the building. At one stage, they locked the gate. We quickly informed the police station. Later, the police arrived at the scene. Then the RAB and the army arrived. No one has been rescued from inside yet.
South Keraniganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mazharul Islam said that discussions are underway between different forces. An operation will be conducted immediately.
