 The project concerned are making all kinds of preparations to inaugurate the much-desired Akhaura-Agartala railway on September 9. As part of preparations, a railway delegation visited the project work on Saturday (September 2) afternoon. It was led by Additional Secretary (Development) of the Ministry of Railways, Md. Yashin. Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi are scheduled to inaugurate the Akhaura-Agartala railway line virtually on September 9. In the delegation, Additional Director General of Railways (Infrastructure) Shahidul Islam, General Manager of Eastern Railway Jahangir Hossain, Director of Akhaura-Laksam Dual Gauge Double Line Project. There were senior railway officials including Subaktgin. Members of the delegation toured from Gangasagar Railway Station in Akhaura, the starting station of the Akhaura-Agartala railway line, to Shivnagar on the Indian border by track car. After the inspection, Akhaura-Agartala railway project director Abu Zafar Mia said that 95 percent of the project has been completed. It will be inaugurated soon. Some of the works that are left will be completed within the next week. Goods trains will run through the railway first. Through this, Bangladesh’s trade with India will increase. It should be noted that 6.78 km is in the Bangladesh part of the Akhaura-Agartala dual gauge railway, which is 12.24 km long. Railway lines have been installed in the entire section. However, the work on the Customs and Immigration building and the station platform is yet to be completed.
