Around 14 maunds of jatka hilsa in drums were raided on three Dhaka-bound buses at Bauphal in Patuakhali. Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer Saiful Islam conducted this operation in front of the TNT office of the city on Tuesday (February 18) around 12:00 pm.
The buses are Moon Transport, Antara Transport and Dolphin Transport. However, although the Jatkas were seized, the bus companies were not punished or fined.
According to various sources, buses of different companies regularly travel to Dhaka from Galachipa, Dasmina and Baufal upazilas of the district. A large quantity of fish is taken to Dhaka every day in night buses. Therefore, the quality of passenger service in these transports is in a bad position. It is said that despite protesting against the smell inside the car, no solution was found.
Earlier, the administration had warned the bus company for transporting fish. Many times bus owners have also been fined. However, the buses are constantly transporting fish.
In this regard, Saiful Islam, Upazila Fisheries Officer, said, I have received information that Jatka hilsa of 5 to 6 inches size is being taken to Dhaka in four buses from Galachipa. Later, raids were conducted and 14 drums of jatka were seized from three buses. Initially, I think that the amount of fish will be approximately 14 manas.
