In 2017, the body of an unidentified woman was recovered in Bilmamudpur Kalabagan of Faridpur; RAB-10 has arrested Sabuj Mia, the absconding accused who received the death sentence in the sensational rape and murder case, after a long time in the Sutrapur area of ​​the capital Dhaka.

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has been playing a leading role in arresting various types of criminals since its inception. Since the creation of RAB, it has been able to gain the trust of the general public by arresting various criminals including extortionists, terrorists, murderers, recovering large quantities of illegal weapons and drugs, robbers, kidnappers, fraudsters. Also, RAB has been able to gain the reputation of the people by arresting and bringing under the law the sensational and talked about escaped convicts organized at various times.

On December 12, 2017, at approximately 10:30 am, the Kotyali police station recovered the dead body of a woman from the Kala Bagan of Bilmamudpur area of ​​Gerda Union of Faridpur Sadar Upazila of Faridpur District. At that time, despite extensive efforts, the identity of the dead woman was not known. After that, Kotyali police started working to identify the dead woman. After a long time it is known that the woman’s name is Nasreen and her house is in Chittagong. His identity was confirmed by contacting Nasreen’s sister Sonia. Later, at one stage of investigation, a person named Arju Mallik, father- Salim Mallick, Sang-Gerda Bilmamudpur, Thana-Kotyali, District-Faridpur was arrested in connection with this murder. At one stage of the interrogation of the arrested Arju Mallik, he admitted that his friend, the mastermind of the incident, Sabuj Mia, the absconding accused, brought the victim Nasreen from Chittagong to Faridpur by luring her into marriage. After taking the victim Nasreen to their convenient place, Arju Mallik and Sabuj Mia premeditated and raped the victim Nasreen against her will. After the rape, when the victim Nasreen told the police about the matter, Arju Mallik and Sabuj Mia strangled Nasreen to death. Later, he left the body in a banana plantation in the said area and ran away. The incident was widely discussed everywhere including the social media at that time and shook the conscience of the civil society.

In the said incident, the police filed a case of gang rape and murder against the unknown accused in Kotwali police station of Faridpur district. Case No. 47, dated 23/12/2017, Section 9(3)/30 of Women and Child Abuse Prevention Act 2000 (No. 2003). Later, the investigating officer of the case submitted the charge sheet to the court on November 19, 2018, accusing Arju Mallik and Sabuj Mia after the investigation.

The Women and Child Torture Prevention Tribunal of the learned court concluded the proceedings of the incident and awarded the death sentence to Sabuj Mia and Arju Mallik, who were directly involved in the rape and murder incident mentioned on 25 September 2023, and fined one lakh taka each. As the accused Sabuj Mia was absconding at the time of the verdict, the learned court issued a death warrant against him.

Meanwhile, the incident created a nationwide sensation through various electronic print media. Right after the verdict, RAB-10, CPC-3, Faridpur camp increased intelligence surveillance aimed at arresting Sabuj Mia, the only absconding death sentence accused in this much-discussed rape-murder case.In continuation of this yesterday, on July 13, 2024, at approximately 21:30, a raiding team of RAB-10, CPC-3, Faridpur camp conducted an operation on the basis of intelligence information in the Narinda Kachha Bazar area under Sutrapur police station of the capital DMP Dhaka. The absconding accused Sabuj (36), Father-Babul Mia @ Babul Mistry, Mother-Firoza Begum, Sang-Mamudpur, Halim Vita, Thana-Katwali, Distt-Faridpur were arrested.

In the preliminary investigation, it was revealed that the accused Sabuj was living in different areas of the country including Madaripur, Uzirpur, Naogaon, Kishoreganj and the capital Dhaka under different guises. The accused, who was arrested in different parts of the country, had multiple marriages and kept his identity a secret and used to stay at different places from time to time. He was last employed as a car mechanic in Narinda area under Sutrapur police station in capital Dhaka. The process of handing over the arrested accused to the concerned police station is under process.
