International Desk:
Russian President Vladimir Putin said in a statement on Thursday that he is ready to meet with newly elected President Donald Trump at any time. This information was reported in a report by the news agency AFP.
At a press conference at the end of the year, Putin said, “I don’t know when I will meet him. He (Donald Trump) has not said anything about this. I have not spoken to him for more than four years. But I am definitely ready to meet with him at any time.”
Earlier, Trump called Putin from Florida on November 7, just a day after being elected as the US president. However, no detailed statement was received from Trump’s representatives on this matter.
At that time, several people familiar with the call said that Trump reminded Putin of the large US military presence in Europe in the call. He also expressed interest in further discussions on a solution to the Ukraine war soon.
It is believed that the call was cordial. Trump has made several comments about the war in Ukraine since his election, including that he would stop the war within 24 hours if he became president.
In addition, the Russian government has responded positively to Trump’s election. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Trump is talking about peace, not conflict, which is positive for Russia.
Analysts say that Trump will probably stop helping Ukraine. Trump could reach an agreement with Putin that could force Zelensky to admit many things. There is no hope of a quick resolution to the Ukraine war, especially the return of Crimea.
