Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd.) said that public involvement and awareness should be increased for expected development of traffic system in Dhaka city. The desired development of traffic order is possible by making the public living in the city aware and involved, including the students. Just like car drivers and traffic police are responsible for driving on the roads, city dwellers also have a duty to obey traffic laws. Keeping that goal in mind, ‘Traffic Party-2024’ is being observed.
The advisor said these things while addressing the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of ‘Traffic Paksh-2024’ organized by Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) from October 21 to November 4 at the parade ground of Rajarbagh Police Line in the capital.
The advisor said that after the current interim government came to power, along with the police, students, civil society members and people of various classes and professions have continued to improve Dhaka’s traffic system with their labor and valuable advice. The traffic department has initiated legal action against illegal vehicles. He said that one thousand volunteers have been appointed temporarily in the traffic department for the period of ‘Traffic Paksh-2024’ with the help of Advisor Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan for the desired development of DMP’s traffic system and elimination of public shortage.
The advisor expressed hope that through the implementation of ‘Traffic Party-2024’, the work of the traffic department of Dhaka city will be increased and the desired development of the traffic system will be achieved.
DMP Commissioner Md. Mainul Hasan NDC presided over the event and Special Assistant to Chief Adviser on Defense and National Integration Development Lieutenant General Abdul Hafeez NDC, PSC (Retd.), Adviser to Ministry of Youth and Sports and Ministry of Labor and Employment Asif Mahmud were present as special guests. Sajib Bhuiyan, senior secretary of the Department of Public Security of the Ministry of Home Affairs. Mohammad Abdul Momen and Inspector General of Police Md Moinul Islam NDC.
Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan in the speech of the special guest said that the role played by the youth in keeping every organ of the government active after the popular uprising of August 5 is undoubtedly unprecedented. The current interim government wants to harness that energy of the youth. He said, I have requested the Home Advisor to use the students as volunteers in traffic management which is going to be implemented today.
Earlier, a colorful rally was organized by DMP Traffic Department at Rajarbagh Police Lines on the occasion of ‘Traffic Paksh-2024’. It was attended by invited guests including Home Advisor, senior police officers and student volunteers.
