Retired workers and employees of Joypurhat sugar mill have organized a human chain and protest to demand immediate payment of gratuity and other outstanding dues. On Wednesday at 11 am, a human chain was organized by Retired Workers, Employees and Officials Welfare Association at Panchur Junction at zero point of the city for two hours. Later they protested in front of the main gate of the sugar mill. The President of Sugar Mill Retired Workers-Employees Welfare Association Abdul Mannan, General Secretary Abdul Matin, former President of Workers-Employees Union Zahurul Haque Saudagar, labor leader Babul Karim and others spoke at the protest rally. The speakers said that for a long time, more than two hundred workers, employees and officials of Joypurhat Sugar Mill have been living an inhumane life without receiving their gratuity and other dues of about 16 crore rupees. They have warned of severe agitation if their outstanding dues are not paid soon.
