Shariatpur’s Jazira Upazila Election campaign and chairman candidate for Jazira Upazila Parishad Election Mohammad Idris Faraji has held a press conference with the motorcycle symbol, accusing him of exploding cocktail bombs near the election campaign ground to drive away the workers-supporters of the motorcycle candidate from the field and to create an atmosphere of fear among the voters.
The chairman candidate made these complaints in a press conference at T&T intersection of the upazila on Friday (May 17) at 5 pm.
During the press conference, former mayor of Jazira Municipality Abdul Haque Kabiraj, Chairman of BKnagar Union Parishad Eskander Ali Bhuiyan, Chairman of Palerchar Union Parishad Abul Hossain Faraji, Secretary of Forest and Environment of Jazira Upazila Awami League Sohag Bepari, President of Jazira Upazila Chhatra League Rubel Bepari and more than hundreds of affiliated organizations were present. The activists were present.
Speaking at the press conference, Idris Faraji said that those who have committed this heinous incident want to break Jazeera Basi’s dream. Demand exemplary punishment by bringing them under the law as soon as possible. Who do you think caused this incident? In response to such questions, he said, those who are afraid of defeat after seeing the public support for us and the people of Jazeera whom they know as terrorists have done such an incident.
When asked, Jazeera Upazila Executive Officer and Assistant Returning Officer Sadia Islam Luna said, “I have heard about the cocktail explosion near the election public meeting, but I have not received any complaint.”
He also said that for these public meetings, permission has to be taken 24 hours in advance from the administration. But no permission was taken for that public meeting.
Regarding the matter, Jazeera Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Hafizur Rahman said that evidence of cocktail explosion has been collected after inspecting the scene. In this incident, the police filed a case as a plaintiff and 6 people were arrested and sent to jail through the court.
