The local Chhatra Dal’s defected and persecuted leaders and activists have rejected the newly formed nationalist Chhatra Dal committees in Laksam and Manoharganj upazilas of Comilla.
At a press conference organized at the hall of the Comilla Press Club on Wednesday (March 12) afternoon, the leaders and activists of Laksam-Manoharganj Chhatra Dal raised serious allegations against the newly formed committees. The leaders present at the press conference said that the Chhatra Dal committee includes banned Chhatra League workers, non-students, married people, meat and fish sellers, and auto-rickshaw drivers, which is against the party’s ideology and constitution.
On March 10, the central Chhatra Dal announced the convening committees of Laksam Upazila, Laksam Municipality, Manoharganj Upazila and Nawab Faizunnesa Government College Chhatra Dal. But this committee, which was formed by controversial people, excluding the local Chhatra Dal’s defected and persecuted leaders and activists, failed to get recognition.
Speakers at the press conference said that the announced committee has additional joint conveners than necessary, many of whom were previously associated with the politics of banned organizations. In addition, many have received important positions in the committee without being students.
The leaders further alleged that a syndicate had transacted a large amount of money behind the formation of this committee of Laksam-Manoharganj Chhatra Dal and had misled the central Chhatra Dal with false information. Such a committee would weaken the ideological foundation of Chhatra Dal and deprive real student leaders.
At the press conference, the leaders and activists called on BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman to quickly cancel this controversial committee and instruct him to form a new committee acceptable to all.
Nazrul Islam (President, Ward 7 Chhatra Dal), Fakhrul Islam Rahat (Member, Nawab Faizunnesa College Chhatra Dal), Alamgir Hossain (Member, Laksam Upazila Chhatra Dal), Rakibul Islam (Joint Convener), Sumaiya, Emu, Isan Rajib, Nazim (College Chhatra Dal), Nahian Tanbir (Joint General Secretary) and Shakib and other leaders and activists were present at the press conference.
