A policeman of the Detective Branch (DB) was attacked while arresting an accused in a drug case in Rajbari. At that time, his relatives attacked the police and freed the accused. In this incident, Rajbari District Detective Branch Sub-Inspector (SI) Wahidul Hasan received primary treatment at Rajbari Sadar Hospital.
The incident took place on February 26 (Wednesday) at around 8:30 am near the Kazibadha Eidgah in Ramkantapur Union of Rajbari Sadar Upazila. A total of 6 people were arrested in the afternoon in this incident and sent to court.
The arrested are, Md. Abul Kalam Azad alias Pinu Sheikh (Member) (47) his brother 2. Md. Mintu Sheikh (55) 3. Pinu Member’s wife Mosa: Sefali Begum (43) 4. Mosa: Nasima Begum (35) 5. Mosa: Shimu Begum (20) 6. Sohagi Begum (25).
Police said that in the morning, a team of detective police led by District Detective Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mofizul Islam raided the house of drug dealer Farid Sheikh in Qazibadha area. At that time, detective police arrested Farid Sheikh red-handed with 310 pieces of Yaba and four bottles of Phensedyl. While handcuffing Farid Sheikh and taking him to a car, his family members attacked the detective police. In the face of their gunfire, the detective police members were forced to remove Farid’s handcuffs. At that time, SI Wahidul Hasan was beaten with bamboo and injured.
Rajbari District Detective Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mofizul Islam said, “After Farid was arrested red-handed with drugs, his male and female family members attacked us. Our SI Wahidul Hasan was injured in this.”
Rajbari Superintendent of Police Shamima Parveen said in this regard, “Farid Sheikh is a notorious drug dealer. There are 9 drug cases against him in various police stations including Rajbari. Today, 310 pieces of Yaba and four bottles of Phensedyl were recovered from his house. In this regard, two separate cases have been filed at the police station under the Narcotics Control Act and assault on the police. A total of 6 people have been arrested in this incident, Farid Sheikh has fled. Efforts are ongoing to arrest him.
