BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has clarified the party’s position on Awami League’s politics. He said, “We have said that Awami League is a political party. The people will decide who will do elections or politics or not. As a political party, we cannot decide that.”

Mirza Fakhrul said that the interim government has started working with responsibility. Everything will not be done overnight. It takes time to clean up the mess of 15 years. When they finish their work, elections will definitely be held and the people’s government will come. We said it would be better to do it a little sooner.

(November 20) On Wednesday, at around 1:30 pm, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said these things at a program to distribute educational materials and corrugated iron among flood victims at BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia’s ancestral house in Sreepur, Fulgazi, Feni.

Fakhrul Islam said, there has been a misunderstanding. The chief advisor was told whether we gave Awami League a chance to do politics or not. This is not correct. We have made our position clear. We said, Awami League is a political party. Who will do elections or politics or not. The people will decide that. As a political party, we cannot decide that.

Noting that BNP has not banned any party from taking part in the elections, the BNP Secretary General said, Hasina and those who have killed people, laundered money abroad and wasted the country’s resources – all of them must be brought to justice and punished. And the people will decide who to allow to do politics or not. We are nobody here, this is not our responsibility.

Mirza Fakhrul commented that the Awami League government has sent BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia to jail on a false case. He said, Begum Khaleda Zia cannot even think about the suffering she was put through. Even then, she never bowed her head. She is still standing with her head held high. Begum Khaleda Zia is very sick. We are trying to send him abroad for treatment.

The people here have suffered a lot due to the floods. Our party leaders and activists have worked in the field. Despite hundreds of tortures, we have tried to stand by the flood-affected people. Those who have committed so much atrocities on the country have fled.

The program was presided over by Rafiqul Islam Majnu, the convener of Dhaka Metropolitan South BNP and organizational coordinator of Feni-1 constituency. BNP Chairperson’s advisor, freedom fighter Abdus Salam, freedom fighter Professor Joynal Abedin, special assistant to the Chairperson Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, BNP Joint Secretary General Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie, Chittagong Divisional Organizing Secretary Mahbuber Rahman Shamim, and BNP leaders and activists at various levels of central and local levels were present at the rally organized at Chagalnaiya Court Ground at 3 pm. He gave a special directional speech to the party leaders and activists.
