On the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, cash assistance has been distributed among 40 orphans and destitute students studying in various Hafezia madrasas in Patuakhali under the initiative of Professor AKM Shahidul Islam Trust.
On Sunday (March 31) at 2 pm in Patuakhali District Commissioner’s conference room, the founder of Professor AKM Shahidul Islam Trust was presided over by Professor AKM Shahidul Isler, former principal of Patuakhali Government College and the general secretary of the trust, Advocate Sohrab Hossain, vice president of Patuakhali Press Club.
Additional District Magistrate Mohammad Tarek Hawladar was the chief guest at the cash assistance ceremony among 40 orphans and destitute students studying in different Hafezia Madrasahs. The vice-president of the trust, former president of the press club, freedom fighter Atul Chandra Das gave the welcome speech. The President of the District Imam Parishad, Khatib Maulana Md. Abu Saeed of Bara Jame Mosque, Jalal Ahmed, the former general secretary of Patuikhali Press Club, and the superintendents and teachers of madrasas were present. The chief guest and the president of the trust gave cash assistance of 2000 rupees to 40 orphans and needy students.
It is to be noted that Professor AKM Shahidul Islam, with the capital of Tk. 25 lakhs of retirement and welfare allowance of his working life, in 2016, apart from providing financial support to poor and talented students, established the Professor AKM Shahidul Islam Trust in the service of the poor, orphans and deprived people of the society. Later he also donated 5 lakhs to this trust. Every year from the capital dividend is spent on the welfare of the poor, orphans, deprived, disabled, helpless people of the society.
In his speech, the chief guest said that the mentality of working for the welfare of people by setting up a trust with their own pension money is rare and exceptional in our society. He called upon the rich people of the society to come forward for such work.
Later Maulana Md. Motahar Hossain led a prayer for the orphans, needy students and all the fasting people along with the founder of the trust AKM Shahidul Islam and the chief guest of the event.
5 Khademul Islam Hafezia Madrasas of Sadar Upazila, Baitul Moazzam Hafezia Madrasa in Puran Bastand, Jamea Madania Madrasa adjacent to Hetalia Bandh Ghat, Noor Hafezia Madrasa in Jabale on Sher Bangla Road, Noor-e-Madina Complex in Masjid Auliyapur and 40 people from Darul Islam Alim Madrasa were present in the ceremony. Cash is distributed among orphans, needy students.
