The Oral Cholera Vaccination Campaign 2025 has started in Ukhia and neighboring upazilas and Rohingya camps. ATM Saiful Islam, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, inaugurated the campaign as the chief guest at the Upazila Health Complex Miltayan on Sunday morning (January 12).The special guests at the event were Dr. Mohammad Halimur Rashid, Line Director of the Directorate General of Health Services, Dr. Shah Ali Akbar Ashrafi, Director of Chittagong Division, Dr. Aung Sui Pru Marma, and Dr. Rajendra Bohara, Representative of the World Health Organization. The event was presided over by Cox’s Bazar Civil Surgeon Dr. Asif Ahmed Howlader.Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Ranjan Barua Rajan, along with senior officials of the Directorate General of Health Services, were present.
According to responsible sources, the vaccination campaign started yesterday to prevent the spread of cholera in the Rohingya camps of Ukhia and Teknaf and the surrounding areas including Ukhia Upazila, which will continue till January 21. The Cox’s Bazar Civil Surgeon’s Office said that 13,56,514 Rohingya and local people in 33 Rohingya camps in the two upazilas, five unions of Ukhia Upazila, Hoi Kyung and Hnila in Teknaf, Wards 4 to 9 of Khunia Palang Union in Ramu and Wards 1 to 3 of Ghum Dhum Union in Naikshongchhari will be administered oral cholera vaccine. Of these, about 950,000 are Rohingya, while the rest are local people. According to sources from the Cox’s Bazar Civil Surgeon’s Office, 3,210 volunteers in 1,605 teams in the Rohingya camps and 744 volunteers in 272 teams for local Bangladeshis will go door to door to administer the vaccine every day.
