District Returning Officer and District Commissioner Farah Gul Nijhum canceled the nomination papers of seven candidates in two constituencies of Jhalkathi. Today Sunday morning at 10 o’clock in the meeting room of the Deputy Commissioner this verification was held.

The candidates whose nominations were canceled are Bajlul Haque Harun, Member of Parliament for Jhalkathi-1 Constituency, Awami League’s rebel candidate M. Moniruzzaman Monir, Member of the Central Awami League’s Freedom Fighter Affairs Sub Committee, Jatiya Party’s Ejazul Haque, independent candidate Ismail Hossain, Nurul Alam, Barrister Abul Kashem. Fakrul Islam. The nomination papers of Nasiruddin Imran, the Jatiya Party’s nominee for Jhalkathi-II seat, have been cancelled. Superintendent of Police Afruzul Haque Tutul and District Election Officer Mohammad Abdus Chalek were present.

Barrister Major (retd.) Muhammad Shahjahan Omar (Bir Uttam), the candidate discussed in the verification ceremony, came and exchanged skills with the activists for a while.

The nomination papers of 6 out of 11 candidates in Jhalkathi-1 seat and 1 out of 4 candidates in Jhalkathi-2 seat were cancelled. Barrister Major (retd.) Shahjahan Omar (Bir Uttam) who was nominated by Awami League in Jhalkathi-1 seat remained as the candidate of boat. In this seat, the current Member of Parliament Bajul Haque Harun was not finally nominated for the boat, so his nomination paper was cancelled. On the other hand, the nomination paper of heavyweight candidate of Jhalkathi-2 seat, current member of parliament Amir Hossain Amur has been declared valid.

Independent candidates have to submit the signatures of 1 percent of the voters of the parliamentary constituency along with the nomination papers. District Returning Officer and Scrutiny Committee Head Farah Gul Nijhum wants to know whether the 10 voters who signed on behalf of independent candidates have signed with mobile phones. In that case, a woman who signed on behalf of rebel candidate M Moniruzzaman Monir, a member of the sub-committee on freedom fighter affairs of Central Awami League, said that she did not sign on behalf of Moniruzzaman. Therefore, the District Returning Officer canceled Moniruzzaman’s nomination paper legally. Similarly, 10 percent of voters signed by three other independent candidates were asked by phone whether they had signed. They also denied the signature. As a result, the nomination papers of three other independent candidates were canceled for the same reason.
