The nomination papers of four candidates have been declared valid for the mayoral by-election in Comilla City Corporation (CUSIC).
Returning Officer at Comilla Regional Election Office on Thursday, February 15th at 11 o’clock. Farhad Hossain after verifying the documents of the candidates declared their nomination papers valid.
Farhad Hossain, the returning officer responsible for the mayoral by-election in Comilla City Corporation, said that 8 candidates had collected nomination forms. February 13 is the last day for candidates to submit their nomination papers.
The valid candidates are – the candidate supported by Comilla Metropolitan Awami League and the organizing secretary of Metropolitan Awami League. Initiation of Tahsin Baha, Advisor of Comilla Metropolitan Awami League Noor-ur Rahman Mahmud Tanim. Two-time ex-mayor expelled BNP leader Monirul Haque Sakku, expelled leader of Metropolitan Volunteer Sevak Dal Nizam Uddin Kaiser.
According to the Regional Election Office, voting will be held in 640 rooms of 105 polling stations in the city. The appeal deadline is February 16-18. The appeal will be disposed of on February 19-20. Last date for withdrawal of candidature is 22 February. Allotment of symbols is on 23 February. The election will be held on March 9 from 8 am to 4 pm in EVMs.
This time 2 lakh 42 thousand 458 voters can vote. Among them there are 1 lakh 18 thousand 182 male voters and 1 lakh 28 thousand 278 female voters. Apart from this there are 2 third gender voters. In the last election, there were 2 lakh 29 thousand 920 voters in the city. Among them, women voters were 1 lakh 17 thousand 92, male voters were 1 lakh 12 thousand 826. Male and female voters have increased by 12 thousand 538 in this by-election.
