Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, ndc, psc (retd.) said, no work can be done outside the law. Considering the current legal situation, we have to perform our duties with caution and patience. We have to be sincere in fulfilling the expectations of the people and always strive.
He said this at a meeting with senior officials of DB and CTTC after visiting the offices of the Intelligence Branch (DB) and Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) Unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
The Home Affairs Advisor visited the DB and CTTC offices of Dhaka Metropolitan Police located at 36, Minto Road in the capital on Monday (January 6, 2025) morning. During the visit, Inspector General of Police, Bangladesh Baharul Alam, BPM and DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjat ​​Ali, ndc accompanied the Home Advisor.
In the view-sharing meeting, the Home Advisor further said, we have many limitations. Despite this, we have to properly fulfill the responsibilities assigned to us. The criminals must be brought under the law. We must be careful that no innocent person is harassed.
He said, the entire force has to face criticism for the misdeeds of one or two people in the force. Therefore, we must keep our image clean and free from corruption. All police must know the law well and implement the law properly.
The Home Advisor said, currently, the recruitment, transfer, etc. of the police are being done with transparency. There is no scope for any kind of lobbying and financial involvement in the recruitment, transfer and promotion. If any member of the police force is found to be involved in any anti-discipline activity, appropriate legal action is being taken against him.
The Home Affairs Advisor provided necessary directions to the police officers present in the meeting. He expressed satisfaction with the current activities of DB and CTTC and suggested to make their activities more dynamic.
He told the journalists present at the press briefing held after the inspection and exchange of views, DB will not arrest anyone in white clothes from now on except in the prescribed clothes of DB. DB will not go beyond the law. It will not arrest anyone by going beyond the law. There will be no such thing as a mirror house or rice hotel in DB. There will be transparency in every activity of DB.
In response to a journalist’s question, he said, you will spread news against the corruption of any person and highlight the true facts. You will refrain from publishing false news.
In response to another question, he said, the border of Bangladesh is completely under our control. We are in contact with both the Arakan Army and the Myanmar government. We are trying our best to ensure that our border remains peaceful.
Then the Home Affairs Advisor inspected the activities of CTTC’s Bomb Disposal Unit, K-9 team and other teams at the DB compound.
Additional Police Commissioner (Intelligence) Rezaul Karim Mallick, Additional Police Commissioner (Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime) Md. Masud Karim, and senior officials from various levels of DB and CTTC were present during the inspection.
