Nine Bangladeshi remittance fighters killed in Saudi fire, identified

Total of 10 people including 9 Bangladeshis and 01 Indian were killed in a fire in a sofa factory in Hufuf Industrial City area of ​​Al Ahsa city in Dammam, Saudi Arabia.
 A fire broke out in a sofa factory in the Al Ahsa Industrial City area yesterday (July 14) around 4 pm Saudi time.  09 Bangladeshi remittance fighters died on the spot and 02 were injured.
Bangladeshi workers Biplab Hossain and Md. Jewel Hossain, who were rescued alive from the scene, said that 14 Bangladeshi workers were working in the sofa factory under the management of an Indian citizen.  The workers were sleeping in the upper accommodation of the factory after eating and drinking after Friday prayers.  Suddenly, they both tried to get out by the stairs when they heard the scream of fire from below.  The entrance was shrouded in darkness with black smoke all around.  They managed to emerge unscathed depending on the hypothesis.  But other colleagues died of suffocation due to black smoke.  Three workers were not injured as they were outside the factory at the time of the incident.

 It should be noted that the ambassador  Mohammad Javed Patwari expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the deceased in this tragic accident.  He directed the Labor Welfare Wing to take necessary arrangements for speedy dispatch of the dead bodies to Bangladesh or local burial as per the family’s wishes.  Besides, he ordered all assistance to ensure good treatment of the injured.  And the Labor Welfare Wing in Riyadh is closely monitoring the matter round the clock.
