Sujon (Citizens for Good Governance) has held a human chain program simultaneously across the country demanding improvement in the deteriorating law and order situation in the country and state reforms. As part of this program, a huge human chain was held at Pubali Chattar in Comilla.
Presence of prominent figures in human chain
The human chain organized by Comilla District Sujon President Haji Shah Mohammad Alamgir Hossain under the chairmanship of Azad Sarkar Liton and moderated by District Secretary Professor Ali Ahsan Titu delivered the inaugural speech. Besides, Comilla Ibn Taymiyya School and College Professor Jahangir Alam, Comilla Metropolitan Sujon Executive Member and Ward No. 17 President Journalist Touhid Hossain Sarkar, Md. Belayet Hossain, Abdur Razzak, Poet Abdul Qayyum Sardar, Humayun Kabir, Journalist Mosleuddin, Advocate Islam, Professor Enam and many others spoke. The Secretary said in his speech that no political party is our choice and we do whatever is relevant to establish a democratic government. President’s speech: Demand for law and order development and state reform President Haji Shah Mohammad Alamgir Hossain said, “We are observing with deep concern that the law and order situation has deteriorated drastically across the country. Crimes such as theft, robbery, kidnapping, looting, torture of women, and extrajudicial killings have increased. Even after ‘Operation Devil Hunt’, the crime trend is not decreasing, rather innocent people are being killed. “He also said, “After the popular uprising, a wonderful opportunity has been created to return the country to the path of pure politics. We want a truly democratic state to be built through the improvement of the law and order situation and state reforms.”
12-point demands from Sujan
In the human chain, Sujan leaders raised 12-point demands, some of which are notable:
1. Take effective steps to ensure the improvement of the law and order situation immediately. 2. Ensure the safety of citizens’ lives and property. 3. Adopt a ‘zero tolerance’ policy to suppress crime. 4. Bring criminals under the law, regardless of party affiliation. 5. Stop extrajudicial killings, disappearances, murders and political violence. 6. De-partisanize the law and order forces and public administration. 7. Announce a roadmap for fair and impartial elections. 8. Stop the misuse of religion in politics and ban political campaigning in places of worship. 9. Taking initiatives to reform the state based on national consensus. 10. Formulating a national charter signed by all political parties.
The Comilla program was successfully completed in continuation of the nationwide human chain
On this day, human chains were held in various cities across the country, including Comilla, at the initiative of Sujon. The speakers simultaneously called on the government to quickly improve the law and order situation and take necessary measures for political reforms. Finally, the leaders and common people participating in the human chain sought the government’s immediate intervention in the interest of the stability of the state and public security. They expressed hope that through this program, the government will listen to the demands of the people and take effective steps to improve the law and order situation.
