The National Democratic Front-NDF Moulvibazar District Committee held a protest march in the city. On February 18, the protest march started from the city’s main square office and circled the important roads of the city before returning to the party office. Later, the meeting held at the party office was presided over by the organization’s District Committee President Dr. Abdush Shahid. The discussion meeting held under the direction of NDF District Committee General Secretary Rajat Biswas was addressed by Bangladesh Trade Union Sangha Moulvibazar District Committee Vice President Md. Sohel Mia, Dhruvatara Cultural Society Moulvibazar District Committee General Secretary Amlesh Sharma, Rickshaw Workers Union Vice President Md. Gias Mia, Hotel Workers Union General Secretary Md. Shahin Mia, Srimangal Samil Workers Sangha General Secretary Matiur Rahman, Hotel Workers Leader Taresh Chandra Das, Rickshaw Workers Leader Md. Jasimuddin, etc. The speakers at the discussion meeting said that the continuous increase in the prices of daily necessities, increasing inflation-inflation, successive increases in the price of fuel oil, increase in the price of agricultural inputs, increase in house rent and car rent, increase in medical expenses including medicines, increase in education expenses including books, notebooks, paper, uncertainty of jobs after education, etc., are continuously making the lives and livelihoods of workers-farmers-students-people more difficult, while the interim government’s doubling to three-fold increase in VAT in fulfillment of the conditions of the IMF loan agreement has become a ‘stool for the dead’ for the people. According to the white paper of the interim government, the US-brokered dictator Sheikh Hasina has laundered 16 billion dollars every year and incurred more debt during the tenure of the government. Loan defaults, liquidity crisis, devaluation of the currency, the danger of bankruptcy in the banking sector, printing money like the previous government, etc. are bringing to the fore the horror of the country’s economy. Although the interim government talks a lot, it continues to implement the policies of the ruling imperialism in the past without taking a role in the context of the problems and crises of public life. The speakers at the meeting said that the inter-imperialist competition over the redistribution of markets and spheres of influence, the inter-imperialist war between Russia and China with NATO under the leadership of the US over Ukraine; the US and Western-backed Israel’s aggression in Gaza, Palestine, Lebanon, and Syria, and the US-China war over the South China Sea and Taiwan are increasing tensions, increasing the danger of its expansion in the Southeast and South Asia. In this case, in view of the geopolitical and overall importance of Bangladesh as a land bridge between South and Southeast Asia and a country in the Bay of Bengal adjacent to the Malacca Strait connecting the Pacific and Indian Oceans, the Western imperialists led by the US and the opposing imperialists China-Russia are continuing their conspiracies and misadventures in the war on Bangladesh’s behalf. In view of the US’s former autocratic government’s dependence on neo-colonial semi-feudal India and advancing relations with the opponent, on August 5, 2024, the autocratic murderer Sheikh Hasina fled to India in the mass movement of the city-centered students and middle class and the role of the army in the US plan. Dr. Yunus, a trusted confidant of the US and the West, was brought to power. In this change in the balance of power, the position of the single superpower, the US, further advanced, the position of the broker India was weakened and damaged, and the opponents, China-Russia, are trying to maintain their own position. The interim government is fully committed to implementing the US plan after coming to power. In this regard, in view of a possible war situation, all necessary reform issues, including constitutional reform, are being brought forward to make a constitution suitable for the US and the West to run the country. Keeping the existing neo-colonial, semi-feudal, autocratic socio-economic system in effect will not benefit the workers, peasants and people of the country. All those who have held the ruling power of this country so far are the agents of some imperialism. Therefore, not one imperialism instead of another, not one agent instead of another, but by intensifying the struggle against all imperialisms and their agents, a strong movement and struggle must be built with the urgent demands of the people and national life in order to establish a state, government and constitution of the workers, peasants and people.
