The Myanmar Navy has released 56 Bangladeshi fishermen along with six trawlers after they were caught fishing in the sea off St. Martin’s Island in Teknaf after 10 hours. Lieutenant Colonel Md. Ashikur Rahman, commander of BGB’s Teknaf 2nd Battalion, confirmed this information at around 11:30 pm last Wednesday.
The owners of the 6 trawlers that were captured are Md. Bashir Ahmed, Md. Amin, Nurul Amin, Abdur Rahim, Md. Shafiq of Shahparidwip area of ​​Sabrang Union in Teknaf. Among them, there are 2 trawlers owned by Md. Shafiq.
According to the owners of the affected trawlers, Lt. Colonel Ashikur Rahman said that in the morning, some trawlers of Bangladeshi fishermen were fishing in the southwestern sea off St. Martin’s Island in Teknaf. At one stage of fishing, 6 of these trawlers entered Myanmar’s waters. As a result, the Myanmar Navy captured the fishermen of these trawlers. Later, the Myanmar Navy seized fish, nets and food from the Bangladeshi-owned trawlers. Then, the Bangladeshi fishermen were released at around 10:30 pm.
The BGB official said that at one stage of fishing, the Myanmar Navy members captured these fishermen as they entered Myanmar’s waters. Later, after snatching the fish, nets and food from the trawlers, they were released at around 10:30 pm. After being released at night, the captured fishermen returned to their respective homes, said Lt. Col. Ashikur Rahman.
